Another amazing chapter book by AVI.

Another story that uses the conceit of casting its characters as fantasy animals to mimic a very human story, of unwanted limelight and finally heroism.
"A scholarly, shy member fo the rabbit-like Montmers,, Perloo is content sipping myrtle tea and reading his history books in his warm burrow. Until the day Perloo's quiet life is interrupted by a mysterious summons from the Montmer leader. Drawing his smock string tightly around him, Perloo ventures out (through the worst blizzard since the Frog Year) to the Central Tribe Burrow to find ou twhat their leader could possible want with him.
So begins Perloo's incredible journey. A journey that will take him over snowy mountains through underground tunnels, into enemy territory -- and after the future of Montmers everywhere."
There's a nice character, Mogwat the Magpie, full of wisdom, coming out with pithy statements like, "Knowing the length of a Montmer's ear, won't tell you if he can listen", and "Only the dead have no choices".

A long chapter book with no pictures, 247 pgs.
Wonderful story set in a time resembling Europe in medieval times. So it might be called a historical fiction. Of course it has magic, and a King and Queen, and an evil Count.
But it is about intelligence, logic, detective work. So for the educated mind!
Get both books for ¥900 for hours of reading joy!
