This doll is held together with a knit material. No glass case, so easy to transport! Just wrap genty in soft material like t-shirts or a towel!
In very good condition, maybe 17 or 20 years old.
The maximum height including the stand (a square with tatami like paper pasted on it) is 50cm.
And the width from her right shoulder to the tip of the sanshin instrument is about 19cm.
The square plate under her feet is included in this height measurement.
This was not one of the high priced dolls, more of a made for tourists on low budgets kind of doll, original cost was about 12,000 yen I think. Don't really quite remember.
The Sanshin, meaning three-stringed instrument, is an Okinawan banjo-like instrument, based on the Chinese sanxian, that emerged in Japanese history in the 1700's. Similar to the Japanese Shamisen, the Sanshin has three strings that are stretched over an (artificial) snake skin body, and wooden neck. Often bound on outside with Okinawan snake skin.
