Ski Camp Leader Job Description
This is a hybrid position, in which you will provide both ski instruction and general support for our residential campers. You'll lead two-hour ski lessons during mornings and evening over four/five days of camp. Outside of lesson time, you will be responsible for supervising campers to ensure their entire camp experience is safe, fun, and memorable. In addition to your duties as a ski instructor you will also act as a camp counselor. You will sleep, eat, and play all day with your campers. After they're asleep, feel free to wind down in our staff lounge!
You may be assigned to campers who speak near-native English - and are in fact not allowed to speak Japanese! Or you may lead a group of kids who are still learning English. For them, the skiing and other activities are a chance to practice and improve their English with your help.
We are seeking hard-working, fun, and energetic English-speaking staff of any nationality. Please note that English Adventure is a non-smoking workplace.
English Adventure's Ski Camps take place in beautiful Tsunan, Niigata. Deep in the heart of Snow Country, we are lucky enough to enjoy our very own private ski hill. Feel free to hit our bouldering wall in your down time, or just chill in our private lodge. Our amazing kitchen crew will keep you satisfied with the best camp food in Japan.
Camp is hard work! We support the campers from morning until night, but you'll have support staff around you, and some good breaks to make sure that you stay energized and are having fun too.
Age 18 or older
Able to legally work in Japan
Available for all training and camp dates (Please see schedule below)
Native, or highly fluent, English speaker
If Japanese, able to speak English at a high conversational level
Serious dedication to helping kids have a blast and make the most of their
At least 3 years ski experience, we are looking for very confident skiers who can carve and ski backwards - please do not apply for the ski leader position if you cannot ski at a level where you can be in charge of teaching kids
Pluses, but not requirements:
Conversational Japanese ability
Ski instructor certification (Japan or overseas)
Current CPR / First Aid certification
Previous experience working with kids in a camp
Previous ESL experience in Japan
Teaching or leadership experience in outdoor
Owning your own ski equipment (We can provide if needed)
December 18-21: Mandatory Onsite Training (departure from Shinjuku to the campsite on December 17 evening)
We'll spend the 18th through 21st training and return to Tokyo on the afternoon of December 21st.
December 26-30/27-30: Session 1 (we will have a 4 day and a 5 day camp)
January 3-6: Session 2 (this will be a 4 day camp)
Staff will be assigned to either the 4-day or the 5-day camp for Session 1.
Rates are 15,000 yen per camp day for Ski Leaders with ski instruction qualifications and 12,000 yen per camp day for Ski Leaders without qualifications. Support staff and Driver positions start at 10,000 yen per camp day. English Adventure also covers transportation between the Tokyo metro area/Osaka/Nagoya and camp, food, lodging and insurance. There is an additional 5,000 yen add-on for fluent/native Japanese speakers with ski instructing qualifications!

Please note that due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, we are hopeful that camp will continue as planned but will be following all national guidelines before confirming camp details. We have added new safety procedures to our camps and all staff and campers will be required to wear masks and to take part in twice-daily symptom checks. We may also prioritise staffing for positions with high rates of interaction with campers for people who have already been vaccinated.
